The West Coast Police District says it is looking for young white and Indian people to join the police service.

Captain Tania Helfrich, a spokesperson for the police district, says under-represented race groups, specifically white and Indian people who are interested in pursuing a career in the South African Police Service, are encouraged to apply at their local police station before 27 September.

While all race groups are welcome to apply, it is necessary for the South African Police Service to meet its employment equity targets.

The 25 police stations of the West Coast District include Vredenburg, Saldanha, Langebaan, Hopefield, St Helena Bay, Laaiplek, Malmesbury, Piketberg, Porterville, Moorreesburg, Darling, Eendekuil, Riebeek-West, Redelinghuys, Vredendal, Clanwilliam, Citrusdal, Nuwerus, Lamberts Bay, Lutzville, Elands Bay, Vanrhynsdorp, Klawer, Graafwater and Doring Bay.

Young people from these towns who are South Africans citizens, are between the age of 18 and 30, are proficient in English and at least one other South African language, and who are physically fit and passed matric are welcome to visit their local police station to fill in an application form before 27 September.

Once approved entry-level police trainees receive a wage of R4 500 per month while undergoing training.

“The police service offers many wonderful opportunities to young people who are eager to make a difference in their community,” Helfrich said.
