The small settlement of Waterpoort in Limpopo is north of the Soutpansberg, where the Sand River wriggles through the mountains on course to the bigger town of Musina on the Limpopo River.

The R523 between Waterpoort and Vivo might be tarred, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t “off the beaten track”.

Where are you going if you’re driving here? If you farm in the area, you’re probably on your way to town – Vivo to the west, where the Soutpansberg ends; or east towards the N1 and over the Soutpansberg to Louis Trichardt.
