DA leader John Steenhuisen's assertion that new political parties are political mercenaries displays his arrogance - the same arrogance that has cost the official opposition dearly in past elections.

This according to analysts who believe Steenhuisen's comments could ruin the party's relationship with other opposition parties after the May elections.

Given the DA's ambitious attempt at unseating the ruling ANC, it will need all the support it can get to reach 51% of the vote together with other parties.
