Ramaphosa to take time to consider party funding bill 'fully', apply his mind – Presidency

President Cyril Ramaphosa won't be rushed or pressured into sending the controversial Electoral Amendment Matters Bill back to the National Assembly (NA), according to the Presidency.

Acting head of legal and executive services at the Presidency, Geofrey Mphaphuli, made the comment after civic group My Vote Counts wrote to the president via its lawyers, giving the president until 8 April - which has already passed - to accede to their request to send the bill back to the NA, or face legal action.

Opposition parties and civic organisations argue that the bill is unconstitutional, constrains multi-party democracy and entrenches incumbency.
