The embattled eThekwini metro is among several KwaZulu-Natal entities that owe the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) millions of rand after investigations into the abuses of Covid-19 funds during the national state of disaster in 2020.
SIU spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago pegged at R15 million the total amount owed by departments and municipalities for probes into possible transgressions in the use of Covid-19 funds.
Already marred by other administrative issues, the metro is among two entities that top the list. It owes R4.3 million to the SIU.
