Many would agree that the Health Ministry's communication around the Covid pandemic has been problematic, writes Mandy Wiener, which is why it is shocking that millions were allegedly paid to a company for the contract.

The president likes to tell us how shocked he is by things that happen in our country, but little truly shocks us anymore. Think about it – crooks had the gall to loot funds meant to pay for protective equipment for frontline healthcare workers during a pandemic. 

Surprisingly, though, I was rather shocked when Daily Maverick published its latest expose by investigating journalist Pieter-Louis Myburgh around Health Minister Zweli Mkhize's communication scandal.
